TAD LAUNCHES NEW EVOLUTION SERIES
DISC PLAYER AND D/A CONVERTER
Featuring proprietary ultra-high C/N*1 master clock UPCG*2, and
supporting high-resolution 384 kHz/32 bit PCM and 5.6 MHz DSD sound sources
Melsele, Belgium (September 24, 2013) – Technical Audio Devices Laboratories, Inc. announces the release of its Evolution series TAD-D1000 disc player and TAD-DA1000 D/A converter. Both models support the latest digital audio technologies and faithfully reproduce sound sources to the absolute limits. Equipped with a proprietary ultra-high C/N*1 master clock UPCG*2 and extensive digital input terminals, digital audio signals are played back to an extreme level of accuracy. When audio is input via a PC's USB port both units are able to play back 384 kHz/32 bit PCM data or 5.6 MHz DSD data. Thanks to a volume function on the TAD-DA1000 D/A converter, a direct connection to a power amplifier can create a simple audio system with high-quality sound.
1) A newly-developed ultra-high C/N master clock UPCG, and a D/A converter circuit equipped with Burr Brown PCM1794A
Both models integrate a newly developed, ultra-high C/N master clock UPCG equivalent to that in the higher-level TAD D600 (Reference Series). Based on engineering methods used in high-speed digital communication base stations to produce high C/N, the high purity master clock was developed; the pursuit of optimal physical properties was complemented by repeated listening evaluations to achieve the highest reproduction level of signals recorded to disc as well as signals received via the inputs. In addition, high precision oscillations at room temperature result in quick start-up and long operating life.
The D/A converter circuit is fitted with two Burr Brown PCM1794A DACs in an independent left-right arrangement. A balanced configuration with the DACs connected in parallel achieves accurate conversion and a high S/N ratio. In addition, the use of a proprietary discrete IV conversion circuit that strikes a balance between residual noise and a high slew rate offers superior transient attacks and spreads in the music, while producing sounds with high definition and impact.
2) A proprietary asynchronous USB transmission engine that faithfully reproduces high-resolution sound sources
Each model comes with five digital inputs (USB, XLR, optical, and 2 x coaxial). The USB Audio Class 2.0-compatible USB port is equipped with a specially-developed asynchronous USB transmission engine, and by controlling the transmission state of the digital signal coming from a PC with the main unit, digital signals can be accurately received. As the received digital signals are read out with a high-purity clock, the digital signal boasts incredibly high precision while being free from jitter. In addition to PCM data supported up to 384 kHz/32 bit, DSD data transmission based on the DoP standard is also supported. DSD signals up to 5.6 MHz directly output from the USB port can be received when using compatible player software on a PC.
3) An aluminium chassis and structure with low centre of gravity to minimise the effects of external vibrations
Both models employ an 8 mm-thick pure aluminium chassis and a structure with a low centre of gravity that places heavier components in the lower portion to minimise the effects of external vibrations, resulting in a thoroughly vibration-damping construction. The design minimises power supply unit vibrations by mounting the power supply onto a thick-walled brass base. In addition, fixing the transport mechanism unit of the TAD-D1000 to the chassis reduces vibrations due to disc rotation and improves operational stability.
4) A proprietary large-sized toroidal power supply unit enables effortless playback of sounds with a fast attack
Both units integrate a proprietary high-output large-sized toroidal power supply unit that is housed separately from the digital and analogue circuits to eliminate mutual interference. Even sounds with a fast attack are played back with ease.
5) TAD's unique CD mechanism guarantees outstanding precision loading and quietness (TAD-D1000)
A unique CD mechanism ensures smooth and highly-precise loading, while minimising the effects of external vibrations on the servo system. The disc tray made from precision-machined aluminium exhibits low-vibration, high-stiffness properties, while the use of black materials restricts the scattered reflection of laser light to increase reading precision. Along with the inclusion of a Pioneer pickup boasting high reliability and reading precision, the use of a brushless spindle motor results in quiet operation and long life.
6) Simple and high-sound quality system configuration made possible through a line output volume function (TAD-DA1000)
The TAD-DA1000 is equipped with a line output volume function, enabling the configuration of a simple and high-sound quality audio system by directly connecting a power amplifier. For customers who wish to enjoy music from their high-resolution sound sources saved to PC, this offers a new way to enjoy high-end audio.
7) A headphone amplifier with a dedicated volume function (TAD-DA1000)
The TAD-DA1000 comes with a headphone amplifier sporting a dedicated independent volume function for headphones. The headphone amplifier, which comprises a discrete circuit, supports headphone impedances from 8Ω to 600Ω, allowing the user to enjoy high-quality sound from a wide range of headphones. In addition, the volume function can be used to listen to music at the desired volume level irrespective of the line output volume level.
